This is a development script for The Simpsons episode 9F15: Last Exit to Springfield. Episode aired on March 11th, 1993. As will be made abundantly clear, this script was
further developed and revised during the creative process.
Famously, O.J. Simpson was originally supposed to appear on the Smartline panel instead of Dr. Joyce Brothers. While O.J. is still in the cast list, he's already been replaced by this point. Dr. Joyce has more dialogue in this draft, all of which was later deleted except for a single line: "I brought my own mic!"
After asking Anthony Hopkins and Clint Eastwood to voice Dr. Wolfe, both of whom declined, they asked Anthony Perkins, who agreed and is listed in this draft's cast list. This script even contains an allusion to his most famous role, Norman
Bates, in the form of a nurse who "looks suspiciously like Dr. Wolfe in a
wig" and is also voiced by Perkins. Sadly, Anthony Perkins would pass away on September 12th before getting a chance to record the part; Hank Azaria would later take the role.
Other major differences include the return of Snappy the Alligator from Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk, Bart's visit to Dr. Wolfe, a topper to the Burns innuendo sequence where he offers Homer $10,000, an additional room in the tour of Burns' manor, Apu selling generic picket signs after the plant goes on strike, and Marge getting a job at a supermarket (Featuring Just Stamp The Ticket Man!)
Notable additions that were made after this draft include Burns' flashback to his grandfather's Atom Mill, extending the first "Dental plan! / Lisa needs braces" run and Grandpa's story that doesn't go anywhere, Homer's organized crime fantasy sequence, Homer punching Lenny in the back of the head (which is mentioned in this draft but not seen), and the musical montage of Burns and Smithers running the plant by themselves.
NOTE: Page 2 was missing from my copy of the script. All pages had a black blotch near the bottom-center of the page, which I've cleaned up as best as I could.
